"Each of those 600 calls will represent 10 hectares of grizzly bear habitat that would be permanently lost to British Columbians, and to the world, if (GRL) were to be approved," said Wildcanada's Nadine Raynolds.

Raynolds added, "This kind of sustained community opposition should be sending a clear directive to the provincial government.

"The Jumbo Action Centre is a critical step," Nadine Raynolds of Wildcanada.net says, "The resort proposed does not make economic or environmental sense and there is overwhelming opposition to it.The B.C. government to date has ignored the concerns of local businesses, First Nations and citizens across western Canada. It is time they listened." The JCCS and Wildcanada.net are asking people to register their opposition at www.jumbowild.com/takeaction/ even if they have already sent in a letter previously because it is unclear as to whether or not earlier comments will be considered by the province in rendering a decision. Bow River placed on top 10 endangered rivers list - [Cached Version]
Published on: 7/23/2003    Last Visited: 7/23/2003

'Irrigation is the prime consumer of water on the Bow,' said Nadine Raynolds, campaign co-ordinator with Wildcanada.net. 'The Bow is drained to irrigate over half a million hectares of land.'

This, she said, combined with the other threats facing the river, is causing a significant decrease in the quality and quantity of water.

Without making some important changes, said Raynolds, people will soon start to see the effects of their destruction first-hand.

'Water quantity could be severely decreased,' she said. 'Our access to water will be severely diminished and we'll be forced into water conservation.'

"It is time for Canada to catch up," said Nadine Raynolds, Campaign Coordinator with Wildcanada.net."We are entering a new energy paradigm, where energy production doesn't need to have a high impact on people's health and the health of our wildlife and wildlands."

The Sierra Youth Coalition and Wildcanada.net have launched a joint online campaign, targeted at Canada's young people, to provide youth with a way to directly contact decision makers federally, in their province, and within their local political riding.

"This new Youth Action Centre is an opportunity for youth, and Canadians of all ages, to express their views on energy development in Canada," said Raynolds.
