Sarah Raymond was born in Paris and raised in the Loire Valley.
She studied interior design in New York at F.I.T., graduating in 1992.
Her first position was with Tom Lee Limited, a small hospitality design firm, specializing in high-end hotel design.
There she worked on the Parker Meridien in New York and Eden Roc in Miami Beach.
She went on to work at the large architectural firm Beyer Blinder Belle, on several historic renovation projects, including Grand Central Station.
Brennan Beer Gorman Monk, a large hospitality firm, then hired her.
For them, she spent two years renovating the public spaces, lobbies, and guest rooms of Caesar's Palace in Atlantic City and The Aladdin in Las Vegas.
In 1996, she became head designer at the venerable decorating house, McMillen, where she worked on a number of important residences before founding SO2.
Olivier des Clers was born and raised in Paris.
He then studied art and design in London, Paris, and San Francisco.
When he was in his early twenties, he established his own design firm.
He spent the next 15 years decorating residences, renovating historic Parisian cinemas, such as Truffaut's 1950s hangout, Le Champo, and designing boutiques and offices, including the Paris headquarters of The New York Times.
He also designed lighting, furniture, and objects for custom projects and commercial production.
In 1998, he moved to Manhattan to work as a designer for Peter Marino and Associates, where he designed several New York boutiques and a sumptuous, museum-quality, platinum-and-Lalique paneled bathroom for a villa in Palm Beach.
