MacAir head of sales and marketing Sarah Raymond says a need for more flights connecting the Bowen Basin became apparent with the volume of workers being drawn from Townsville and Mackay to the mineral-rich region.

"This workforce is currently driving long distances to get home to see their families on their rostered time off - we are offering them a quicker alternative, which should hopefully help to reduce the amount of traffic on these road networks," she says.

The services will be operated by a SAAB 340B aircraft.

Head of Sales and Marketing, Sarah Raymond said MacAir last year donated over $150,000 worth of flights to Mount Isa and surrounding communities in the north-west region."We recognise the importance of the role we play in each community we service and had great success with Community Support Programs and MacAir Day (school attendance) Program," she said.
