Frances Raymond was born July 17, 1911 in Rutland, Ohio.She moved to Athens to live with her Aunt Susie when she was three months old.Her Aunt Susan Carter raised her.She was a lifetime member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she held several positions for many years.

She was an Entrepreneur- owning her own Beauty Salon, candy store, and rental property.Mrs. Raymond joyfully talked about baking fudge candy & chocolate chip cookies for the kids at Athens High School.She was known by the kids in the community as the "Candy Lady".She prized herself in making people look beautiful.She didn't just consider herself as a hair dresser, but as a beautician.
