Raymant sees continued excellence for Alcon
    ...
Cary Raymant never envisioned he would become head of the world's largest eye care company.
    ...
Raymant, who joined Alcon in 1989 when CooperVision Surgical was acquired, says if you had told him back then he would some day take the company's reins, he would have initially reacted with skepticism. Now, 15 years later, he says he not only is thankful for the career evolution that played a role in his selection for the job, but he also is excited about what the future holds. "Alcon has established itself as the premier eye care company in the U.S and around the world," he says. "We have been very successful historically, and our current efforts and strategic vision should ensure we continue to be the leader in the industry." Raymant's selection makes him only the fourth man in 50 years to serve as Alcon's president and CEO. He says the company's great foundation and commitment to advancements in eye care serve as a testament to its excellent past leaders, and he is honored his name will be added to that short list. When he joined the company, Raymant worked in the surgical products division as vice president of marketing. Since then, his rise through the organization has been marked by increased diversity and scope. He currently serves as senior vice president, Alcon United States, responsible for the company's surgical, pharmaceutical and consumer units. He is responsible for international marketing and operations in Japan, and has past experience in the company's managed care division. "My career evolution here, my growth as an executive, does give me an important understanding about the company that will be beneficial in my new role," Raymant says. "But I must credit our excellent management team and the other wonderful people who make up the Alcon family with making this company what it is today and helping me transition into the future." Raymant, 57, is hesitant to sing his own praise. But when pressed, he describes himself as a strategic leader, a team builder and consensus seeker whose door is always open. He says he's lucky to work with Alcon's 13,000 employees, who he describes as "family" and "richly talented." "I look forward to executing the vision and strategy we already have in place," he said.
