    Mary Florence Ray age 95 of Mt. Sterling passed away at 11:05 p.m. Friday, November 5, 2004 at the Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Mt. Sterling. She was born December 15, 1908 in Brown County, Illinois the daughter of George and Florence McEntee Busen.She married Francis "Doc" Ray on November 26, 1932 in Mt. Sterling and he preceded her in death on May 22, 1997. Mrs. Ray was a nurse at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Illinois and had also worked as a private duty nurse.She later worked for Whited Nursing Home in Mt. Sterling and assisted her husband with several businesses. Mrs. Ray graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Mt. Sterling and also graduated from St. John's Hospital School of Nursing in Springfield, Illinois. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling.Mrs. Ray was a member of the Brown County Republican Party, was active in civic projects, including the establishment of the veteran's memorial in Cooperstown, honoring the veterans from Cooperstown Township and was a member of the group of people who worked diligently to build a gymnasium at St. Mary's Academy.She attended Quincy Cursillo and was a member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society.Mrs. Ray always enjoyed playing cards, cooking and spending time with her family.Mary was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
