    RICHARDSON, Texas, USA (21 February 2008) , The Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) will present the 2008 Distinguished Achievement Awards to James Ray for his environmental contributions to the offshore industry, and to StatoilHydro for the Ormen Lange project at the annual OTC Awards Luncheon on 6 May at Reliant Center in Houston, Texas, USA.The world's largest conference for offshore development will be held 5-8 May.

    Ray, who retired from Shell in 2005 and is currently president of Oceanic Environmental Solutions, in Spring, Texas, will receive the OTC Distinguished Achievement Award for Individuals for his leadership in demonstrating how the petroleum industry can operate in harmony with the environment; and for his rigorous pursuit of science related to the effects of oil and gas industry operations on marine ecology.

    James RayJames Ray is the president and founder of Oceanic Environmental Solutions.His previous experience includes 30 years with Shell Oil Company and Shell Global Solutions US.His roles within Shell included over 20 years as the manager of environmental sciences.

    Ray has been a leader in both the American Petroleum Institute and the Offshore Operators Committee in understanding the environmental fate and effects of offshore discharges.His key areas of interest have included drill muds and cuttings, produced water discharges, and the effects of sound on marine mammals.

    Ray has served on the Minerals Management Service Scientific Advisory Committee and the National Academy of Sciences Ocean Studies Board.He has been a contributing author to numerous National Academy publications and has represented the oil industry on several federal advisory committees.He also was chairman of the 1995 International Oil Spill Conference.

    Ray is a marine biologist, having received a PhD in biological oceanography from Texas A&M University.
