Mr. Rather is the first-ever recipient of the award, which is given in recognition of a lifetime of dedicated service to ABOTA, leadership in the legal profession and preservation of the right to trial by jury.

  Education: A 1968 graduate of the Duke University School of Law, Mr. Rather has been engaged in active trial practice for 36 years. He received his B.A. cum laude from Vanderbilt University in 1961 and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
