Edward Ellis Rappaport, 45, died June 7, 2000, at his home in Arlington, Va., of pneumonia/complications associated with AIDS, according to his partner of 18 years, Robert J. Cwiok
Rappaport was born Nov. 21, 1954, in New York.He graduated magna cum laude from Hofstra University in 1976, where he received a bachelor's degree in psychology and English, and earned a doctorate in law in 1979 from Case Western Reserve School of Law.Rappaport moved to Washington, D.C., in 1980, where he took a job with the National Association of Air Traffic Specialists as a general counsel and labor relations specialist in Silver Spring, Md.
In 1982, he became a legal consultant for the International Association of Chiefs of Police in Gaithersburg, Md. From 1983 to 1986, Rappaport worked as an attorney-adviser for the Federal Labor Relations Authority in Washington.Then in 1987, he took a job with the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists in New York as an assistant executive director/house counsel, where he commuted between Washington and New York until his retirement in 1995.He moved to Arlington, Va., in 1996.
Rappaport was an avid bowler and belonged to the Gay Men's Bowling League during most of the 1980s, according to Cwiok.He added that Rappaport was a theater enthusiast, with a complete knowledge of Broadway plays and musicals.
He was a lover of the arts, museums, game shows, and Rosie O'Donnell - both high and pop culture, Cwiok said.Rappaport was also an animal lover who owned three cats : Chessie, Duncan, and Toby.
