K of C board president Terry Rankin says the group's original plan would not have touched the actual wetlands. However, neighbors and others believe the area -- already flooded with runoff from Castleton and Keystone at the Crossing -- can't possibly sustain a stadium.
Besides that, they don't like the idea of buses roaring around residential streets and light and noise pollution.
Then there's that delicate issue of notification.
...
They know it now, says Rankin, who acknowledges that the K of C made a few missteps.
And although the Knights have withdrawn their petition, he is not ready to quit.
The issue is too important for kids, he says. His plan is to let tempers cool for a while, then work with neighbors so that a satisfactory agreement can be reached.
And maybe that can happen, if everybody is respectful of all players: the environment, the neighbor, the property owners and the kids who deserve an even playing field.
