Dr. Abdul Rana was formally welcomed today by Selma Bochnek, President of the Belleville Family Medical Centres, and Dr. Barry Guppy, Chief of Staff at Quinte Health Care.

QHC officials showcased the area to Dr. Rana and illustrated the acute need for his services.The BFMC were able to provide him with a first class facility in which to establish his outpatient practice."Within weeks I was able to make the move, set up my practice, and welcome patients, thanks to this unique facility, and the tremendous support from both QHC and the BFMC" explains Dr. Rana.

Dr. Rana joins Dr. Jeffrey Allin, family physician and anchor physician at the BFMC, and Dr. Tim Brown, an ear, nose and throat specialist who joined the BFMC in September 2004.

Dr. Rana comes to Belleville from Ottawa, where he had a Clinical Fellowship at the University of Ottawa in Neurology, specializing in Movement Disorders.Dr. Rana completed his Neurology Residency at the New Jersey Neuroscience Institute and undertook an Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Ottawa as well.
A Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, Dr. Rana is also a member of the Canadian Neurological Society, the Canadian Medical Association and the Canadian Medical Protective Association.He speaks not only English but also Urdu, Arabic, Punjabi and Hindi.And Dr. Rana's non-clinical activities include a lot of speaking: he is a public educator for patients with Parkinson's Disease, and works with the Parkinson's Society.
