"I've done comics in town for more than 10 years," said Ray Ramos, the creator and writer of "El Valiente."
...
In creating the Valiente character, Ramos wanted a superhero who was born and raised in El Paso.
"Valiente is more like Superman -- he always tells the truth, he always does good, and he respects women," he said."He does things that kids can look up to and respect."
Ramos said El Valiente is like a throwback to '60s Mexican movies that used wrestlers such as El Santo and Blue Demon as actors.
"I'm paying homage to those 'Mex-Ploitation' movies, but I'm trying to update it a little bit and make him from El Paso," he said.
...
"Mex-Ploitation movies had a simple formula," Ramos said."Get a guy in a mask, let him fight a monster, he saves the girl, and he becomes the hero."
Ramos said "El Valiente" is getting national attention.
"A major toy company (representative) saw him online and contacted me," Ramos said, but did not reveal the company.
...
"Richard Dominguez told me he had a spot open to do a crossover and wanted to use 'El Valiente,' " Ramos said.
