    "These results are highly significant and indicate a major advance for thousands of women with breast cancer," said James Radford, M.D., an oncologist at Pardee Hospital."As a community cancer program, our goal at the Comprehensive Cancer Center at Pardee is to ultimately eliminate suffering and death from cancer in our community and this type of study, with its life-saving results, puts us one step closer to achieving it."

    Three Pardee patients participated in the study, which enrolled more than 3,330 breast cancer patients across the nation between February 2000 and April 2005, Radford said.The patients in the study will continue to be followed for any side effects.

    "We admire and thank our courageous patients for agreeing to be a part of this important clinical trial," Radford said.

    Best Doctors Inc., a Boston-based company, surveyed more than 35,000 physicians nationwide, asking them to grade other doctors in their specialty area.Those with the highest averages - only about 5 percent, or 889 doctors in North Carolina - made the final list.A copy of the list is available online at www.businessnc.com.
