Despite the recent inclement weather, Dr Quinn and his team have managed to finish off three of the storage areas and now have four in total.
‘At the beginning of this month, the first few storage areas had their first real test, as extremely heavy rains pushed them to their limits, but they passed with flying colours,' he said. ‘Local residents said that they could already see a difference and were really pleased with the results.'
‘We're not ecologists, but we have taken advice from people such as the RSPB and have modified the design of these storage features to create as many habitats as possible in the process,' he said. ‘So they're not only potentially diverting floodwaters but also useful for the whole environment.'
The team will also be working with colleagues from biology who will be carrying out studies into birds using the site.
