Likewise, the talents of ex-Teenage Fanclub drummer Paul Quinn never had sufficient breathing room in a group with three other gifted songwriters, but he proved himself their equal with his stellar, Gene Clark-channeling debut North Pole, which he recorded under the name the Primary 5.

Led by ex-Teenage Fanclub/Soup Dragons drummer Paul Quinn, Scottish melodic rockers the Primary 5 make '60s and '70s-influenced melodic rock not dissimilar to the drummer's former employers. In 2001, after recording four albums with the Fanclub, Quinn decided to leave the band and begin work on his first ever set of original songs. Collaborating with local Glaswegian musician Ryan Currie at ex-Oasis bassist Paul "Guiggs" McGuigan's studio, Quinn sang and played many of the instruments on the band's debut album, North Pole.
