Although Gina Quin graduated from UCD with a psychology degree in 1980, she has always been interested in the world of business, and returned toUCD to receive an MBA in 1989.

A member of several city development groups, in 2001 shewas appointed the first female chief executive of the Dublin Chamber of Commerce since its establishment in 1783.

Today, Quin is Ireland's nominee to the EUEnterprise Group, which works toward securing the aims of theLisbonAgendatomakeEurope a more competitive economic area.

She sits on the boards of the Chamber of Commerce of Ireland, Bord Bia and is chair of the Common PurposeAdvisory Committee.

Prior to her appointment at the Dublin Chamber, Quin was chief executive of Gandon Enterprise, part of Rehab group and also worked with Lansdowne Market Research and the Ir ish Trade Board.

Her professional life has centred around advising businesses on management and strategic planning issues.

"Howto influence decisionmaking and influencing colleagues is key to business. I firmly believe in competition, but teamwork is really essential too. It's all about shared goals and if everybody understands these goals and communicates well then a good team can accomplish much more than working individually," she said.

The 46-year-old is proud of her Dublin upbringing and is keen to see the city thrive. "There has to be an environment for business, but Dublin also has to be an attractive place for employees to come to, and more importantly, to keep employees here," she said.

Quin was involved with the Custom House redevelopment and looks set to continue lobbying government to improve Dublin's transport infrastructure.

She points to tangible progress with the Luas and the Dublin Port Tunnel, which opens next year, but she sees a second airport terminal, ametro and a complete orbital road network integrating the M50 with a new southern port access route as urgent necessities.

Outside work, the mother-of-three has a broad range of interests.

She plays a little golf and generally enjoys being in the great outdoors.

But her "Dublin agenda'‘ is never far fromthe lobbyist'smind.
