In 1988, Mr. Paul Quiles, Minister for the Postal Service, Telecommunications and Space, appointed him as personal advisor for space affairs.In this position, he oversaw the activities of the French Space Agency (CNES) and the European Space Agency (ESA) and participated in the definition of their programs.
In 1993, Jean-Yves Le Gall joined Novespace, a subsidiary of CNES, of which he was Managing Director.In this position, he participated in the company's development and especially contributed to the increase in Novespace's international activity, with American industry.
In 1996, he was appointed as CNES Deputy Managing Director.In this capacity, he managed the elaboration of the Strategic Plan for CNES during the course of 1996 and was particularly in charge of CNES Strategy and External Relations.In this function, he was the French Representative to the European Space Agency and was responsible for CNES's international relations and corporate communication.
In 1998, Jean-Yves Le Gall was appointed as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Starsem, the European-Russian company charged to commercialize the Soyuz launch vehicle.
In 2001, he joined Arianespace as Chief Operating Officer and in 2002, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer by the Board of Directors.
Jean-Yves Le Gall has been named Chevalier de l'Ordre National du Mérite (Knight of the National Order of Merit).He is also Member of both the French (AAAF) and International Astronautics Academy (IAA).
