HILLSBORO - Commissioner Roger Quicke thinks for a person to serve his fellow townspeople, he should have experience and knowledge of how the town operates.
"It's important for a person to work their way up the ladder and get experience at as many different levels in government as possible," he said."Having served the town for the better part of 20 years gives me knowledge of the town and how we can make it a better community."
Quicke is running for re-election Monday against first-time candidate Dash Hoving.Quicke has held the position since winning a special election in 2003 after Tom Riley vacated the position.

Quicke served with the town's Planning and Zoning and Recycling Commissions and the Planning and Appeals Board before becoming a commissioner.
A resident of Hillsboro for 25 years, Quicke traces his family's lineage on the Delmarva Peninsula back to the Revolutionary War.
Quicke said during his tenure as a commissioner, the town has made great strides in making it a good place to live.He takes pride in the job the town has done bringing dilapidated buildings in distressed areas up to town' standards, saying enacting of a livability code has been important in helping the town's appearance.
"I'm proud of the job the town has done trying to bring back some of the older buildings," he said."The bank on Main Street is a good example. It was a wreck. We still have a ways to go with it, but you can look at it and see how it is being redone and how it will be a positive thing for Hillsboro."
Quicke also said the town's commissioners have done a good job with running the town, saying by keeping Hillsboro's budget balanced, the town is well run.
"I think we have one of the best run small towns in Maryland," he said."We keep the costs low and the results high in Hillsboro. We try to keep Hillsboro a place its residents can take pride in."
Quicke said if re-elected, he will continue to work to improve the quality of life for Hillsboro's residents, maintain the integrity of the town and to finish work restoring the bank, which he would like to see turned into a town museum. He also hopes to improve the Town Hall by upgrading the playground with modern equipment and installing a pavilion for the enjoyment of the town's citizens.
Quicke works for Alban Caterpillar in product support. He was previously employed for 20 years by Ferguson Trenching. His three children were all raised in Hillsboro.
