Chief of the section of neurology research Co-director of the memory disorders and dementia clinic Associate professor neurology and neuroscience, Tufts University School of Medicine

For almost 10 years, Henry W. Querfurth, M.D., Ph.D., has been a leading researcher of neurodegenerative diseases at CSEMC.Dr. Querfurth is a graduate of the University of Rochester School of Medicine, and is currently certified in internal medicine, neurology and psychiatry.

Dr. Querfurth is responsible for direct neurologic patient care in both clinical and acute hospital settings as well as the training of residents and medical students by conducting teaching rounds and lectures.Dr. Querfurth guides several basic science and clinical investigators in his laboratory. The central theme of his laboratory is that intracellular accumulations of misfolded proteins are cytotoxic through a number of cell signaling, cycle control and homeostatic mechanisms.Currently, his Alzheimer's Disease research efforts focus on how the excessive build-up of a protein called beta-amyloid in the brains of patients interrupts synaptic signals between nerve cells in the brain.A similar age related disease of skeletal muscle is also under intense investigation in his laboratory.
