Virginia Queen -

Virginia Queen has a BFA in Acting from West Virginia University and an MFA in Acting from The School of Arts at Pennsylvania State University.She exercises a broad range with her craft and has a lifetime of performance experience.She has recently relocated to the Triangle from New York City where she'd been working for seven years as a professional actor, teacher, dance choreographer and director.She co-founded Broad Horizons Theatre Company in New York City and during their first year, the company was invited to perform Sam Shepard's "Fool For Love" at the English/American Theatre Festival in Düsseldorf, Germany.She played the role of "May."Virginia is very passionate about her teaching and has worked with children extensively in New York City, teaching drama and dance programs as well as creative classes that addressed issues of conflict resolution and violence prevention.In 2002, she was hired by FEMA to work as a crisis counselor through creative arts to deal with feelings of loss following the tragedy of 9/11.In 2003, she wrote and directed "Freedom and the American Revolution," a series of one-act plays that also included songs and dances.The fourth grade classes at Public School 87 in Queens, NY, performed the piece.She and the school were both recognized by The New York Times for integrating arts into the curriculum and for being advocates of arts education.

Virginia Queen has earned both a BFA in Acting from West Virginia University and an MFA in Acting from The School of Arts at Pennsylvania State University, where she taught acting for two years.She moved to New York City in 1997 where she balanced her career as a professional actor, drama instructor and coach, movement choreographer, director and producer.She has worked in all areas of theatre development and outreach for over ten years and is a founder of Broad Horizons Theatre Company in New York City.She continues her work in the Triangle recently directing Project ENGAGE! for the School of Education at UNC and serving as choreographer for Oliver!, the Summer Youth Conservatory's first co-production with Playmaker's Repertory Company.Virginia Queen teaches acting for the 11-13 year-old classes and one section of the Monday 9-10 year-olds class.
