    Diane D. Quantic has been an associate professor of English at Wichita State University since 1973.She serves as coordinator of the Great Plains Studies Certificate program and teaches courses in Great Plains literature and in nineteenth and early twentieth century American literature.In 1986-87 she was a Fulbright Scholar in Bulgaria.In 1993 she served as President of the Western Literature Association.She is Vice President of the Mari Sandoz Heritage Society and was a visiting scholar at Chadron State College in Chadron Nebraska in the spring semester of 2001.

    Her book, The Nature of the Place: A Study of Great Plains Fiction won the Society of Midland Author's award for nonfiction in 1995.Most recently she has edited A Great Plains Reader with P. Jane Hafen (Taos Pueblo), an associate professor of English at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas.She has written entries on Great Plains literature for various reference works.

    She has been a member of the Kansas Humanities Council Speakers Bureau for over ten years, giving talks on the Great Plains landscape and literature to civic groups across the state.She is also a discussion leader for the Kansas Humanities Council's book discussion series, Talking About Literature Across Kansas (T.A.L.K.), which takes her to small town libraries where she has an opportunity to talk about Western American literature with enthusiastic readers who often have Great Plains experiences of their own to share.

    Diane, who is a native of Manhattan, Kansas holds three degrees from that town's university, Kansas State: a BA in 1962, an MA in 1966 and PhD in 1971.At Wichita State University she has served as Writing Program Director and currently is Director of Graduate Studies for the Department of English.In addition to her years at Wichita State, she has taught at the University of Northern Colorado and at Alameda High School in Lakewood, Colorado.
