   WHIK.NET was launched April 1, 2001 by Dana Quante, a stay-at-home mom in Inwood. Newly arrived to the area in March, she found there was no central resource for "places to go and things to do" in the neighborhood with her two-year-old. Fortunately, Inwood and Washington Heights is populated by friendly, helpful people who answered all her questions about the area. One thing led to another, and she found she had lots of little bits of paper all over her desk. Being a neat freak, and also needing some mental stimulation, she created WHIK.NET. WHIK has gone through 4 design changes as she learns more about web and graphic design, but the content continues to expand as helpful parents and community organizations continue to give her new and exciting information. WHIK is really the cataloguing of community contributions by our uniquely involved and proactive residents. Upper Manhattan is truly a wonderful place to raise a family and to be a neighbor.
   
   The goal of WHIK.NET is to help families fully utilize the resources in their own community, thereby helping local businesses and community organizations. Most of the entertainment and recreational resources listed on this site come from NYC Parks Dept, NYPublic Library, and local Non-profit groups. We urge our users to support these organizations.

   WHIK.NET Fué lanzada el 1 de Abril de 2001 por Dana Quante, una mamá de quedarse en casa en Inwood. Recién llegada en Marzo, encontró que no había una fuente central de información sobre "sitios donde ir y cosas que hacer" con su hija de 2 años. Afortunadamente, Inwood y Washington Heights están llenos de gente encantadora y dispuesta a ayudar que respondieron a todas sus preguntas sobre la zona. Poco a poco vio que tenía su escritorio lleno de papeles con notitas. Como ella es una obsesa con la limpieza y a la vez necesitaba estimulación mental, terminó creando WHIK.NET. WHICK ha pasado por 4 cambios de diseño según va aprendiendo más de diseño gráfico y de web, pero los contenidos continúan creciendo según padres deseando ayudar y organizaciones dentro de la comunidad continúan dándole información nueva y excitante. WHIK es realmente un catálogo de contribuciones de la comunidad creado por unos residentes involucrados y proactivos como ningunos. El Alto Manhattan es realmente un sitio maravilloso para tener una familia y ser un vecino.
   
   El objetivo de WHIK.NET es ayudar a las familias a utilizar en su integridad los recursos en su propia comunidad y con ello ayudar a las empresas y organizaciones locales. La mayoría de los recursos de entretenimiento y recreativos en esta web vienen del NYC Parks Dept., la NY Public Library y organizaciones sin ánimo de lucro locales.
