Lee Quandt

I read in the Exeter News-Letter's Dec. 12 issue the story of Lee Quandt's heart attack, operation and his return to Concord two days later to continue the people's business and his duties as our representative here in District 13.

It brought much to mind about these past three years, but most importantly the question of how best to thank a public servant who has done so much for his constituents, the state of New Hampshire and our country.

I have pondered this question since April 7, 2004.That was the day that our fight to reinstate my wife to her job as the DES supervisor here in the Seacoast went public.Lee and Matt stepped forward as the tip of the sword for us and continued to do so for over two years.

Following the election this past November, after the ballots had been counted and Lee and Matt had emerged as the two sole Republican survivors of the district, Lee said to me: "Matt and I are like a couple of cockroaches, they just can't get rid of us."

So how does one properly thank a public servant of such tenacity and humor who expects nothing in return for his tireless efforts to do what is right for the citizens of New Hampshire?
