David would like to pay the difference between a 16-page paper and a 20-page paper so that we can have an inserted 4-page "countercoup press" or something to that effect. the content would be up to david, but i would be designing the paper. i am not sure when this would start, but i would like to have a discussion about it on here well before the next issue so that i can give david a definitive answer.

i do not know how many of these per year david is interested in, but he's willing to pay the difference on whatever number it is. before i contact him again i want to get some reactions to the concept.

Cedar Hammock Fire Division Chief David Quaderer, Bradenton Fire Division Chief David Dobrzykowski and Southern Manatee Fire Chief Thomas Hennessy all said area fire and law enforcement officials learned a valuable lesson in mutual aid during last year's hurricane season.

While shutters and plywood usually do the trick, Quaderer advises to take them down once the threat of a storm passes. Most people tend to barricade themselves inside their home throughout hurricane season, and that can be dangerous.

"One of the things we want people to remember is when they board up and secure their homes to remember their egresses - at least have two ways in and out," he said."Don't block yourself in in case of another emergency" like a fire, he said.

Preparation stretches beyond just stocking up on supplies early.

Charlotte County's Emergency Operations Center was badly damaged or destroyed, and officials were forced to relocate to Sarasota County's Emergency Operations Center, according to David Quaderer, fire coordinator at the Manatee County Emergency Operations Center.

By early Friday evening, four Charlotte County fire stations were confirmed destroyed, prompting Charlotte County fire officials to ask Manatee County for help under a mutual aid agreement, Quaderer said.Manatee County officials sent an 18-man crew - from Longboat Key, West Manatee Fire Rescue, Cedar Hammock Fire Rescue and Manatee County Emergency Medical Services - along with three fire engines and two ambulances, Quaderer said.

The F-15s, based at Tyndall Air Force Base near Panama City, will join a MacDill Air Force Base KC-135 Stratotanker in the flyover, said David Quaderer, a Cedar Hammock Fire Rescue division chief and co-chairman of the committee organizing the day's events.

"It's going to be a fitting tribute to those lost Sept. 11, 2001," he said."It also gives us a chance to salute our military forces who are out there protecting us every day."

The military planes are expected to fly along the river around 9 a.m., coming in from the west.Organizers are hoping thousands of Manatee County residents line both sides of the river and wave American flags to greet the flight.

Two aerial fire trucks also are scheduled to be stationed on the southbound side of Green Bridge and hang a large American flag between extended ladders.

Organizers hope to dedicate it on Sept. 11, 2003, Quaderer said.

First responders also have set up a plan should Frances swing well enough away from Manatee to spare damage and yet deliver a punishing blow elsewhere in the state, said David Quaderer, fire coordinator for Manatee's emergency operations center.

A "strike team" of 31 people with five fire engines and three ambulances is in place to travel to any area of the state needing assistance, he said, and stay for an initial deployment of up to seven days.
