   Tim Quade has a philosophy about a home.
   
   "A home should look like it evolved through periods of time," he said. "It gives a better representation of who lived there."
   
   He subscribes to the theory of layering possessions so that they come together in an eclectic mix that says something about the individual.
   
   His home on Ashland Avenue in Ashland says many things about him. His love of rich color, plants, books, dogs and more are evident in each room. He describes himself as "definitely not a minimalist, and I love clutter. Even when I get a new piece, I just scoot things around to incorporate the new item."
   
   The first clue that you,re in for a treat is when you walk through the front gate. Quade has turned his small front yard into a lovely garden that highlights the yard art -- even in the fall season.
   
   As you walk up the steps onto the front porch, you get another impression of Quade,s flair for taking the ordinary and making it extraordinary. Tastefully lit shrubs stand guard in their pots on either side of the front door. The wicker furniture recedes into a sea of wall hangings and plants. Quade, a decorator by trade and owner of Interior Motives, shows a very impressive entryway to the home.

   From the zebra rug to the chair coverings, the world of the jungle provides a cozy corner for Quade to work.
   
   Deep color flows throughout the living quarters. The red of the living room washes up to a ceiling of burnt umber. It stands as a palette for a very formal room with its grandfather clock and gilded desk.
   
   "Even though this room is quite formal, I sit in here all the time," Quade said.

   The deep blue is also used in the bathroom, but Quade has offered a subtle patriotic theme by adding gold stars to the ceiling.
   
   On down the hall, another one of the bedrooms has been turned into a den where paintings of Quade,s beloved dogs decorate the walls.
   
   "My favorite time in history was 1780 through about 1825," Quade said.
