Spatial data are items of information - for example, the population of a town, the height of a mountain, or the occupant of an address.Stored in many forms, including images and hard copy, spatial data can be used for planning developments, managing assets, improving living conditions, protecting the environment, etc.The information is then collected as digital data in geographic information systems.

The use of spatial data is a fundamental information asset in developing solutions that address homeland security challenges.For example, the military, local law enforcement and first-responders all need common mapping information that is secure, accurate and available during a disaster.

Mr. Qiu has over 20 years experience in GIS research and Remote Sensing Science, including spatial analysis and modeling, development of GIS application software, web-based mapping and information processing and remote sensing digital image processing.Mr. Qiu also spent over 10 years in examining the integration of neural network and fuzzy logic to facilitate the understanding and improvement of traditional remote sensing image classification, raster based spatial analysis to support urban and environment change detection and simulation, application of spatial data analysis in public health related problems, and application software and Internet mapping service design and development. Mr. Qiu has participated in numerous Researches and has published a large number of research papers and presented his research at numerous conferences both in China and abroad.
