"We don't want grieving to get in the (way) of flying," said Capt. John Puckett, public affairs officer for the 181st Fighter Wing in Terre Haute.

Maj. Thomas R. Sims, of Indianapolis, a 1986 graduate of Perry Meridian High School, parachuted to safety after the collision. He was treated and released from Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes on Monday.

A day after the accident, investigators searched for evidence as Burchett's family prepared for the funeral of a deeply spiritual pilot whose call sign was "Padre."Known for playing basketball and the trumpet, he was remembered as a doting father to sons Eric, 6, and Sam, 2.He would have celebrated his 10th wedding anniversary with his wife, Debbie, on Friday.

In such cases, said Puckett, the 181st spokesman, an Air Force investigation board conducts the review.

Officials recover any available evidence, Puckett said, including the black boxes present in every aircraft.

"We hope to have everyone home by Easter," Capt. John Puckett said from Terre Haute on Sunday afternoon.

The problem began with normal complications of scheduling airlift for the troops from Turkey where they have been stationed since January.

The members will arrive in differing numbers and times throughout the coming week and the 181st Fighter Wing will be calling family members of returning members once their flight information is confirmed.

"We may have to send two or three home at a time, just as space on flights become available," Puckett explained.

The 181st personnel is telling family members that everything possible is being done to return them home soon to their families.

The troops left Jan. 30 for a rotation to support "Operation Northern Watch" and were called to active duty shortly after setting up in Turkey.Their mission was completed since last month's launch of "Operation Iraqi Freedom."

This week's return marks the completion of the third time the 181st Fighter Wing "Racers" have supported "Operation Northern Watch," and the fifth time the Wing has deployed overseas to support the no-fly zone.
