Growing up, Matt and John Puckett of Greenville didn't realize the lessons they learned as children would one day fuel their adult passions.

"It wasn't any one thing that Dad did," Puckett said, "it was our family values.We would not have the attitude or the passion and enthusiasm toward the United Way and other community services that we do if it weren't for the role models of our parents."

Today, the brothers themselves work tirelessly serving on various boards and community councils.Yet it is through their service to the United Way of Greenville's Young Philanthropists of the Palmetto Society that the two have had the unique opportunity to share what they learned as boys: the joys of giving back.

Matt Puckett, 37, is on the 2005 United Way campaign cabinet and the Palmetto Society board, and John Puckett, 30, serves on the YP Council on which Matt previously served.

Since the Young Philanthropists began eight years ago, the group has grown annually and the council's mission is to keep it growing, John Puckett said.

One of its biggest challenges has been getting the word out, he said.Recently, efforts have focused on marketing the group as a brand, with bumper stickers and brochures featuring the YP logo.
