The only remaining defendant in the federal corruption case is Sweeney's personal lawyer, Robert Pryce Jr., whose trial is set for Sept. 2.
The corruption charges are related to a vote-buying scheme involving trash hauler Browning Ferris Industries, which won a 10-year, $60 million contract with the city in February 2002.The contract was later rescinded.
Prosecutors claim that Sweeney, 45, and former Carson City Council members Raunda Frank and Manuel Siao Ontal Jr. agreed to split $600,000 with Pryce in exchange for their votes on the waste-hauling contract.
