HIGH POINT -- The Oct. 2 fatal shooting of Antonio Latuanne Pryce by a High Point police officer was a justified use of deadly force, District Attorney Stuart Albright ruled on Wednesday.
...
Authorities believe Pryce was en route to a drug deal when he tried to flee police in his pickup, with Thomas' body partially inside the truck as it accelerated down Main Street.
...
After pulling Pryce over for questioning, Thomas asked to see Pryce's driver's license and registration.Failing to produce any registration, Pryce also refused to turn off the engine.
After agreeing to turn off the ignition, Pryce began to search for the registration, claiming the vehicle was rented.
After running a check on Pryce's license-plate number, Thomas learned that the truck was not properly registered and he attempted to arrest Pryce. That's when Pryce refused to step out of his truck, turned on the ignition and sped off with Thomas hanging on.
Thomas fired his weapon after twice ordering Pryce to stop.
...
When Pryce was taken to High Point Regional Hospital, bags of cocaine, crack and marijuana were found between his legs, said Albright, who described Pryce as a drug dealer on probation.
