Robert L. Pruitt, II, is a Domestic Violence Facilitator with the YWCA of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County in Maryland.Mr. Pruitt specializes in developing intervention materials and programs aimed at ending violence for men who batter and boys raised in abusive homes.He has provided professional development workshops, and active trainings and lectures for the following : Junior High Schools, Colleges and Universities in Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia, local law enforcement, health care providers, youth organizations, service organizations and Departments of Social Services throughout the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area.Several workshops have spawned from Mr. Pruitt's work with Domestic Violence : Conflict Resolution, Anger and Stress Management, Effective Listening and Communication, and a Leadership Program entitled Foundations - Building an Effective Community. While his messages are universal, many of Mr. Pruitt's programs and lectures target African-American youth and address issues of vision, identity, values, molestation & rape, power & control, and leadership.Mr. Pruitt also formed Men for Families, Inc. in 1998.This nonprofit organization supports men that have completed domestic violence intervention programs.The participants choose to strengthen intra personal skills, encourage other men to change their behavior, and participate in community service.Besides facilitating groups and conducting workshops, Mr. Pruitt has served as an informal science educator for 14 years, specializing in the development of educational materials.He has conducted science programs at Southampton College, Southampton, NY ; American University, Washington, D.C., and the Carnegie Science Center, Pittsburgh, PA. He also works with ValuesFirst where he infuses character education into the curricula of District of Columbia Public Elementary Schools and provides training for administrators, teachers, parents and students.Mr. Pruitt has appeared on several local television shows (Fox News 5, Channel 8 News, Maryland Public Television, Jones Cable, Prince Georges County, and D.C. Cable) and on radio (WHUR 96.3 FM, WYCB, & WOL in the Washington, D.C. area).

In addition, Mr. Pruitt is planning a domestic violence march in Washington, D.C., working on a documentary for LIFETIME Television, and conducting youth leadership workshops and service programs for The National Student Leadership Conference at Stanford University and American University.Mr. Pruitt is co-author of Bubble Monster and Other Science Fun (1996), Bite Size Science (1998), and African-American Males in School and Society (1999).He resides in Maryland and shares his life with his wife and friend Sonia - a Montgomery County, Maryland Police Detective.
