SUNAPEE - Howard Pratt, 87, of Lower Main Street, died Saturday at the Clough Center in New London.He was born in Ludlow, Vt., the son of George and Ina (Fuller) Pratt.He attended Newport schools and graduated from Keene High School in 1933.For five years, he worked at the A&P in Keene, then worked in Lebanon as a store manager.From 1941 to 1947, he worked for John Hancock Insurance Co. in White River Junction.From 1947 to 1956, he owned and operated Pratts' General Store in Goshen.His store also had gas pumps and a Post Office.He served as the town Postmaster.He moved to Sunapee in 1956.From 1957 until his retirement in 1977, he was an auditor, collector and inspector for the state Department of Revenue Administration.The Pratts also owned and operated Wayside Grocery in Sunapee.He served in the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II.He was a member of the Community United Methodist Church in Sunapee; a lifetime member of the American Legion Post No. 25 and the V.F.W. in Newport; and a member of the IOOF and the Lions Club.He wrote and directed many minstrel shows in Goshen and Newport and acted in many local productions.He appeared in two movies: Wild Goose and Henry Phipps Goes Skiing.
