Graham Powell

Three County Councillors, including Caldicot representative Graham Powell, have objected to proposals for the sale of part of the playing field at Caldicot Comprehensive School.

The end of an era beckons for Caldicot politics following the failure of County Councilor Graham Powell to secure nomination from the Labour Party for the council elections in June. Councilor Powell, has been the dominant figure in local politics for many years. He has served on Monmouthshire County Council for 55 years. He is at present awaiting trial on charges of theft and fraud.

County Councilor Graham Powell, who represents the town's Severnside ward, appeared before Newport magistrates to face ten charges of theft and two of forgery (See July 2003). He pleaded not guilty on all charges and was released on bail.

County Councilor Graham Powell, who represents Caldicot's Severnside ward, has been charged on ten counts of theft and two of forgery. Detective sergeant Davies of Cwmbran police said that the charges related to the alleged theft of £24,700 from elderly relatives. Councilor Powell has denied all the charges.

The six-month suspension from Monmouthshire County Council of Councilor Graham Powell (Severn Ward) has been upheld following an appeal. Councilor Powell was originally suspended by the council's standards committee after allegedly threatening to "throw a social worker out of a window".

County councilor Graham Powell, the most well known political figure in Caldicot, has been arrested and questioned by Newport police after accusations of fraud and theft relating to an elderly relative. The allegations do not relate to his political activities. Councilor Powell, who was released on bail, has denied all the allegations.
