Biography - Dr Marion G. Pottinger
Dr Marion G. Pottinger, a professional engineer, earned his M.S. degree and Ph.D. degree at Purdue University and his BSME at the University of Cincinnati.After leaving Purdue, Dr Pottinger served in the USAF where he did some of the original research on wave propagation in high-performance composites.Since leaving the Air Force in 1969, he has worked in tire and tire/vehicle mechanics for B.F. Goodrich, Uniroyal Goodrich, and most recently as technical director of Smithers Scientific Services, Inc.Though he has worked in almost every area of tire mechanics, he is best known for his work with respect to tire force and moment properties and the mechanics of the tire footprint with application to wear.He is president of the Tire Society and President of M'gineering LLC.He has been particularly active in SAE and ASTM where he has contributed to the production of numerous technical standards.
