"Construction will be going out the back door as kids are coming in the front door," said Columbia athletic director Randy Potter, who was the athletic director and boys basketball coach for 11 years at Homedale and ran the freshman sports programs at Skyview last year.
The building may not be completed, but Potter has finished hiring head coaches for all 13 varsity sports and the school has settled on a mascot (Wildcats) and school colors (maroon and gold).
The football stadium, baseball, softball and soccer fields were completed last year, so athletes will have a place to play when tryouts begin in August.
Only the bleachers and lights in the football stadium haven't been installed.
If the main gym is not done by the time volleyball tryouts begin, Potter said the school has arranged to have athletes use the gym at Nampa's East Valley Middle School.Columbia's auxiliary gym should also be finished in time for tryouts.
