John Postill is a lecturer in media at Staffordshire University (UK) where he runs the MA in Media Futures and is developing new MA programmes. He is presently working on a book entitled Localising the Internet based on fieldwork he carried out in 2003-2004 on cyberactivism and local government in a Kuala Lumpur suburb. That research was funded by the Volkswagen Foundation through Bremen University. In 1996-8 he did research on 'old media' and nation building among the Iban of East Malaysia (Borneo) as part of a PhD in social anthropology at University College London. Drawing on that research he has published articles on media in relation to literacy, time, ethnicity,nationalism, exchange and pedagogy. His book Media and Nation Building (Oxford and New York: Berghahn) is currently in press. -
