(WWLP) - 22News spoke with Pediatrician Dr. Michael Posner about the dangers of tanning booths.

Others in the health field said they, too, had not heard of the recommendations Memberg gives, although some pediatricians do recommend replacing toothbrushes, said Dr. Michael Posner, a Massachusetts pediatrician and a spokesman for the American Academy of Pediatrics.

"It makes a certain amount of sense," Posner said of the extensive measures.

"But the question is how many cases of strep in 1,000 families would it prevent?"

The measures can't hurt, might help, but for the most part, probably aren't necessary, he said.

"So much of the produce we eat year-round now comes from countries that have lower sanitation standards than ours," says Michael Posner, MD, a pediatrician in West Springfield, Massachusetts.
