    (Aug. 17) ALLIANCE - Mabel M. Porter, 104, died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002, at her home.She was born Feb. 27, 1898, at Custer County Nebraska to Samuel A. and Minnie Belle (Henry) Carr.

    Her childhood was spent on a farm in Custer County and after receiving her education she taught in the rural schools for several years.She was married to Charles W. Porter on Sept. 25, 1919, at Broken Bow.They moved to Alliance in the fall on 1922 where he was employed by the C.B. & Q. Railroad until his death in 1927.She was a member of the First Christian church for over eighty years, a charter member of the B.P.O.E. Does, and active in the Rebekah Lodge for many years having received the Decoration of Chivalry from the organization.She is survived by her children, Lorraine Shell of Charlotte, N. C., Robert Porter of Houston, Texas, and Donald Porter of Arvada, Colo.; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.She also is survived by several nieces and nephews.Her parents, four sisters and one brother preceded her in death.

    Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Monday, Aug. 19, at the Bates-Gould Chapel with Rev. Walter Cline officiating.Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery.Memorials may be given to Prairie Haven Hospice, or the Colorado Children's Home at Denver, Colo., in care of the First Christian Church of Alliance.Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.Pd.Obit.
