May 5 , 1920 -- July 23 , 2001

NORWICH -- Josephine Josie Davis Porter , 81 , died Monday at St. Christopher's Nursing Center , where she had been a resident since 1992.

She was born in Norwich on May 5 , 1920 , the daughter of Victor and Katherine Bradlaw Davis.

She attended local schools and graduated from the Norwich Free Academy in 1938.She married the late Robert J. Porter in 1945.He died in 1989.

She was employed by the Thermos Bottling Company and worked in the billing department for over 45 years.

She was a member of the Norwich Grange 172 , AARP , a former member of the Thermos Camera Club , President of the Thermos Credit Union , and a former Sunday School teacher at St. Mark's Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her cousin , June A. Bradlaw of Rockville , MD , and Norwich , and a nephew , Robert Davis of Mount Holly , N.H. , one great niece and 3 great nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held Friday at 10 : 30 a.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church.A calling hour will be held on hour prior to the service at the church.Burial will follow in Yantic Cemetery.
