Former Noosa mayor Noel Playford, a long-time member of the NPA, said the two biggest battles fought for Noosa were the extension of the national park and the strategic plan.
"The first was getting significant areas of Crown Land that gave real biodiversity significance as well as recreational significance into the national park, in other words protected from development," he said.
"The other was NPA-driven, but mostly achieved through council (in 1985) when we decided to get NPA members elected to council, and was the Noosa plan regime.Trying to get strategic planning in place that respected the capacity of this area to support people in a decent lifestyle."
Looking at the battle being fought today on amagalmation, Mr Playford doesn't believe it will jeopardise all that he and the NPA has worked for over the years.
"I know there are some who are worried about that and I think there is a real danger that some things will be lost, but I think some of the major planning initiatives are likely to remain, we won't say guaranteed, of course. The rest of the coast is more likely to learn some things from Noosa as we learn some things from them," he said.

"If it hadn't been for Noosa Parks Association constantly harassing councils when they were incompetent and if it wasn't for the visionary people who got involved in council in the '80s and '90s, particularly Noel Playford, I don't think Noosa would be a shadow of what it is today," he said.
