    COLUMBIA - Daniel J. Pietras, 70, husband of Dorothy Pietras, entered into eternal rest March 23, 2006.Born in Toledo, Ohio, he was the son of the late Leon and Pauline H. Pietras.He was educated in the Ohio School System.After graduating from Burnham High School in Toledo, he entered the U.S. Army.He had a distinguished military career of 25 years.He graduated with honors from the NCO Military Academy, Stuttgart, Germany; 91C nursing school, Ft. Bliss, Texas, first in his class; 91C instructor at Moncrief Amy Community Hospital, Ft. Jackson, S.C.; and was NCOIC of the surgical section until his retirement from the Army.He was a volunteer nurse for the Epilepsy Foundation at the YMCA for 10 years.He earned a Business Administration degree from Columbia Business College in 1976 and later worked for SCDC, retiring after 21 years of service.He was an avid gardener and bowler until his health curtailed many activities.He was a member of Ft. Jackson Masonic Lodge #374.

    Surviving are his loving wife of 33 years, Dorothy L. Pietras; stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, James M. and Julia Dye of Abingdon, Va.; stepdaughters, Kimberly Rodriguez of Lugoff, S.C., and Michelle S. Lamm of Wilson, N.C.; four stepgrandchildren; a stepgreat-grandchild; brothers and sisters-in-law, Phil and Nancy Pietras, Leonard Pietras, and Jack and Sue Pietras, all of Toledo, Ohio; sisters and brother-in-law, Patricia and George Jenkins and Monica Growder, all of Townsville.
