    Troy Pierson is a principal manufacturing engineer at United Defense, L.P., where he serves as the manufacturing manager for the MK57 Vertical Launching System.Pierson's technical achievements began at an early age.In high school he began tutoring students in machine shop, and his first military duty station entailed troubleshooting electrical equipment.Throughout his military and professional careers, Pierson has shown interest, leadership and management capabilities for the science and engineering fields.For Pierson, there is an opportunity every day to share knowledge and encourage others to improve their abilities.At United Defense, Pierson has influenced designs for Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) inputs.He is currently responsible for all manufacturing-related activities for the MK57 VLS, a project with an excess of $6 million in related manufacturing work.

    Young-Jun Son, PhD, is an assistant professor of systems and industrial engineering at the University of Arizona.Son's research accomplishments are centered on the combination of manufacturing systems knowledge, simulation, and software development techniques.He has co-authored more than 40 publications in refereed journals and conferences, primarily on the application of distributed and hybrid simulation to the analysis and control of automated manufacturing system integration and integrated supply-chain.Son is also an avid supporter and advisor for the University of Arizona's IIE/Rockwell Software Student Simulation Competition teams, and he is the associate editor of the International Journal of Modeling and Simulation.
