In a letter on Thursday to Jean Pierre Pierre, mayor of the Clarence-Rockland municipality, Robert Bourdeau, medical officer of health for Eastern Ontario, said that the turbidity in the region's water was above provincial norms.
...
His letter to Mr. Pierre was photocopied and distributed to residents of the three hamlets.
...
The problem is lack of filtration, says Mr. Pierre, as parasites are not eliminated by the chlorine in the well water used by the three hamlets."The turbidity is always there," he said."It's going to keep coming back, so we have to do something."
Mr. Pierre wants to extend the water filtration plant in Rockland so pipelines can deliver filtered water to the hamlets. An application for a government grant was made in ebruary, but Mr. Pierre is hoping to have the process rushed considering the present situation."We're ready," he said.
