"There's no question that prevention is, by far, the most important service," he said. "The other is the sense of safety that students and faculty feel."
The SRO is often the first responder to a fight or situation, and is trained to handle it, Pierce said. The officer also provides an instant link to emergency communication through police radio, and will know of hazards in the community immediately, he said. -
