   Dr. Pierce was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Manhattan.
   
   He married Helen Marie Marchant in Manhattan. She died in 1951. He later married Louise Evelyn Davis in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She died in 1994.
   
   Dr. Pierce also was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Mikkelson, in September 2001.

   Pierce and Lizzie Gruenwald Pierce. He grew up in Manhattan and attended the local schools. He then attended Kansas State Agricultural College and was a 1941 graduate of the School of Veterinary Medicine.
   
   Dr. Pierce worked as a veterinarian for the U.S. Government for many years, serving in various parts of the country. He retired in 1969 and spent many years in Arkansas before moving to Manhattan in April 2000.
   
   He was a member of the St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Manhattan.
   
   He was married to Helen Marie Marchant in Manhattan. She preceded him in death in 1951. He was later married to Louise Evelyn Davis in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She preceded him in death in 1994.
   
   In addition to his wives, Dr. Pierce was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Mikkelson, in September 2001.
