Elizabeth PierceMinneapolis attorney Elizabeth "Liz" Pierce graduated from the William Mitchell College of Law in 1984.In her campaign for judge of Hennepin County District Court, she stresses her commitment to the community, particularly in the nonprofit sector. For instance, she points to her involvement with agencies such as Meals on Wheels and Chrysalis, as well as OutFront Minnesota and Rainbow Families.
If elected, Pierce will have firsthand experience with the workings of a courtroom. She has been a litigator for years--including representing the GLBT Catholic group Dignity against the local Catholic archdiocese in a dispute over its denying the organization use of archdiocesan facilities.
Pierce also served as clerk for a judge, with the myriad attendant responsibilities.Opinions of judges often substantially are written by their law clerks, who also oversee many administrative duties. This experience is an excellent opportunity for young lawyers to prepare for a career of their own on the bench.
It is apparent from Pierce's background that family issues are near and dear to her heart. She has practiced family law for fifteen years with the law firm of Messinger, Ojile & Pierce.
