J. "Joe" G. Pierce former Tonkawa and Newkirk resident, died March 8, 2002 at the Hillview Health Care Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He was 82. A graveside service was held at 10:00 a.m. on March 12, 2002 at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Michael R. Kear officiating. Arrangements were made under the direction of Trout Funeral Home. Mr. Pierce was born on July 14, 1919 in Huntington, TX, to Bruce and Arrie (Fletcher) Pierce. After serving in World War II, Mr. Pierce purchased the Tom and Tiddle Shoe Shop in Newkirk, which he ran for ten years. He then became a postal worker and worked for the Post Office in Newkirk for over 35 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed the stock market and gardening. He is survived by one son, Larry Pierce of La Crosse, Wisc.; three sisters, Nadine, Pauline and Delores; and two grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Kay County Unit, P.O. Box 1151, Ponca City, OK 74602.

J.G. Pierce
J. "Joe" G. Pierce, former Tonkawa and Newkirk resident, died Friday, March 8, 2002, at the Hillview Health Care Center in La Crosse, Wis. He was 82.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Michael R. Kear officiating. Arrangements are made under the direction of Trout Funeral Home.
J.G. Pierce was born on July 14, 1919, in Huntington, Texas, the son of Bruce and Arrie Fletcher Pierce. He was reared in the Tonkawa area and attended Tonkawa public schools. He married Bonnie Maxine McIntosh on Aug. 30, 1939, in Kingman, Kan. After serving in World War II, he purchased the Tom and Tiddle Shoe Shop in Newkirk, which he ran for 10 years. He then became a postal worker and worked for the post office in Newkirk for over 35 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed the stock market and gardening.
He is survived by one son, Larry Pierce of La Crosse, Wis.; three sisters, Nadine, Pauline; and two grandchildren.
