    Fitzgerald G. Philippeaux holds a B.A. in English Literature from Brooklyn College.He earned his J.D. from the City University of New York School of Law , where he studied under civil rights pioneer Haywood Burns.

    Philippeaux's legal background includes work in the areas of civil rights , immigration law and community economic development.In 1996 , he clerked at American Friend Service Committee where he successfully prepared an asylum application for a Togolese national.Philippeaux was also a Charles Mendelson Fellow in the Community Economic Development Unit at Brooklyn Legal Services and clerked at Credit Suisse First Boston.He also has over ten years experience in human resources and technology at several major law firms and Fortune 500 corporations.

    During law school , Philippeaux led immigration law workshops for the National Lawyers Guild's Street Law Project.He co-founded and participated in human rights delegations to Haiti and Cuba.At Brooklyn College , Philippeaux was an active member of the Haitian-American Student Association ( HASA ).He was Managing Editor of Les Kako Magazine , a publication formed to promote Haitian culture in the Tri-state area.

    Philippeaux organized a 6-week Haitian Creole language seminar at Brooklyn College.He also co-Chaired the Haitian American Alliance's Citizenship Committee , where he organized numerous citizenship and voter registration drives at Brooklyn and Queens churches.
