    Steve Perkins honored at annual conference in Alexandria

    Luverne, MN - Steve Perkins, Sanford Hospital Luverne Community Advisory Board Chair, was honored on July 10, 2009, for completing a Minnesota Hospital Association (MHA) board member certification program.

    Certifications were awarded at MHA's 23rd-annual summer trustee conference in Alexandria.

    Perkins was one of five hospital trustees to earn the designation under the voluntary program, which verifies their efforts to remain up-to-date on health care issues; hone their leadership skills; and develop governance best practices.

    To achieve the designation, participants had to earn, for example, 35 education units in topics as varied as strategic planning and positioning and patient safety and quality.

    "This certification demonstrates that leaders of Sanford Hospital Luverne, like Steve Perkins, take their stewardship role very seriously," MHA President and CEO Lawrence Massa said.

    Minnesota Hospital Association accolade recognizes Steve Perkins' efforts

    Luverne, Minn. - Steve Perkins was named the Minnesota Hospital Association 2006 "Trustee of the Year" for his work on the Sioux Valley Luverne Hospital Community Advisory Board.

    The honor was one of 15 individual and group awards bestowed by the MHA in its annual program held Friday evening, January 12, 2007, to recognize caregivers, administrators, volunteers, and others whose standout contributions improve health care across the state.

    Perkins demonstrated noteworthy success in the following criteria to quality for the award:• Assisted the hospital in design and delivery of services or programs significant to the health and welfare of the community. • Provided leadership at the local, state, or federal level in initiating and promoting cooperative programs among community members who share goals related to the delivery of health services within the community.• Demonstrated leadership or involvement in the field of hospital governance.

    Perkins chairs the Sioux Valley Luverne Hospital Community Advisory Board and has served on the board for a total of 14 years since 1986.

    The AHA Committee on Governance is a specialty committee of the AHA Board of Trustees. It is responsible for leading effective involvement of the nation's hospital trustees through grassroots advocacy, policy development, communication and advice on AHA's trustee initiatives.

    Perkins joined the committee in 2005 as its Region 6 trustee liaison. He also serves on the AHA Political Action Committee (PAC) Steering Committee.
