Bonnie Pereyda, Vice President of Merrill Lynch, donated $ 100, 000 to the Good Samaritan Rescue Mission. Soon after the media got wind of the donation, many more started pouring in. The Murphreys still need more money to finance the new building, which will hopefully be completed by mid-July.
Many miracles happened at Camp Good Sam since its opening in November. An ex-camper who had been a heroin addict for 29 years quit without medical assistance, many of the campers found meaning in their lives through marriage, and on March 1, 2000, 40 percent of the ex-campers were employed. The campers felt a sense of belonging and community that they have not felt in a long time, usually street people are disconnected from society.
